Product Desc: Product Description
BACK THE ATTACK, an original archival film anthology, is a sobering, yet entertaining, historical document chronicling the songs, sensitivities, sentimentalities, and tragedies of the Second World War (1939-1945); and the spirit of nations united to battle the enemy and restore order and peace.

Presented is a diverse, annotated, selection of original, unedited and uncensored, American and British, Official War Office and Ministry Of Information, propaganda films that informed the masses, revealed the true identity of the enemy, and rallied support of the war effort on the battlefield and on the home front.

The producers make it very clear that no malice or hate is intended by the lack of censorship. After all, the omission of the truth is the same as a lie, and to view the past through rose-coloured glasses and blinders would be an exercise in futility.

The programme is dedicated to all who died, nearly died, or were injured in war, and to all who loved them and found little comfort in the cold glory of medals for the maimed and dead.

ACT ONE (films):

THE WORLD AT WAR (1942)
Premier OWI release tracing the origins of the war through Pearl Harbor; Written by Samuel and Bella Spewack; Narrated by Paul Stewart (Raymond in "Citizen Kane").

KEEP 'EM ROLLING (1942)
A Morale-boosting Anthem by tunesmiths Richard Rodgers and Lorenze Hart. Sung by Jan Peerce (of the Metropolitan Opera).

MEN OF TOMORROW (1942) Great Britain
Boy Scout activities and contributions to the war effort in war-weary England.

GERMANY CALLING (c1940)
Charles Ridley's amusing essay mocking Hitler and his goose-stepping Gestapo (aka "Schichlegruber Doing The Lambeth Walk Nazis Style"). The soundtrack is, for the first time in decades, synchronized correctly.

HAVE YOU KILLED A (JAP) SOLDIER TODAY? (c1944)
OWI hard-sell Bond Drive trailer.

ENTR'ACTE : Holiday Greetings
The sentimental longing of a family to be reunited juxtaposed with the realities of war. Created especially for this programme in 2006.

ACT TWO (films):

IT'S YOUR AMERICA (c1943)
Elabourate production stars Arthur Kennedy (disgruntled draftee); Preston Foster (field surgeon); J. Carroll Naish (French Officer); and Don ("Winslow Of The Navy") Terry as an infantryman, whose Lucky Penny signifies what America is all about. Stirring, tear-jerking final.

HANDS (1944)
Essay exploiting productive hands juxtaposed with those of the dead.

MYRA HESS (1945)
The famed pianist in a lunchtime concert at London's National Gallery, performing a work by Beethoven, a German; the significance of which was to send "a strong message to the enemies of Democracy that Brits could admire the culture of the German people while abhoring the politcal realities of the Nazi Reich".

ARMY AIR FORCES -PACIFIC (1945)
The Flight Of The Enola Gay. Glorifies air-killing machines; and the preparation and delivery of the A bomb on Japan.

JUST FOR REMEMBRANCE (c1944)
Heart-wrenching,
